PRESIDENT REPORT:
Summary
of the last Year:- Well what
can I say about the walks?
We had the usual pre-meets,
we met up on the Sundays,
We drove to the hills, We climbed the hills.
As
Nick would say, just more rocks and grass.
We came back down and had a wee refreshment, So not a lot
different from previous years.
But it wasn’t just that, it
was the year of El Presidente del Sol, I’m not going to go into
details about each walk, but when was the last time we had four stunning
days on Skye??? Even at the Burns’ Supper walk, Pauline had to ask me
to stand out of the rays!
Now,
I’m not going to go overboard on this because I was ably helped by a
new club member when Pauline joined.
Her first walk
was down the borders and it really pissed all day, but then all turned
to light, I became President and Linda joined us, so it’s been
a combination of El Presidente del Sol and Linda.
What
were the highlights?
Shiehallion, plenty of snow to cover the boulder field, plenty of sun a
great day.
Skye, as I’ve said before four days of sunshine, well ????
The Family Day, amongst a batch of real bad weather, the Sunday we went
was brilliant, we couldn’t have got better.
Coulter Fell, New Year’s Day, over 30 on top of the hill, brilliant
sunshine, I’ll say no more.
The Burns’ Weekend, I’ve already mentioned about the walk, but the
night was really the best, every year it gets better and this wasn’t
an exception, my thanks to all who took part, a few special mentions:
Neils, who knew he was sort of rock star!! And for his toast to the
lassies.
Phil, in Mary’s night dress, that’s a scary vision which will haunt
me for a long time.
Everybody who helped in Tam O’shanter, what a hoot that was, I’ll
never forget the vision of Wee Nick up on Mungo’s back, the mind
shudders, then the girls in panto garb as the witches, they can scare me
anytime!!
Margaret, for a very witty reply from the lassies.
My older, yes much older brother, Charlie for the immortal Memory.
And
also Mungo as ever in superb form
.
But especially to the folk who worked tirelessly throughout the
afternoon and night, so a big, big hand for Brian, Marguerite and Davy.
Well
that’s it.
John
Harris
President
TREASURERS
REPORT:
The
balance sheet was passed round showing a balance in the current account
of £904.00. The club made a
modest profit of £14.23, but this included a £300 donation to Mountain
Rescue.
The
present annual fee to the MCof S is £13, but this was agreed still very
worthwhile due to the ever increasing work that MCofS carry out on our
behalf and also the excellent magazine Mountaineer posted to all members
It
was pointed out that the loss incurred for the Glenshee weekend was
mainly due to the payment had to include breakfast; however a profit was
made overall on the club weekends.
It
was suggested that the clubs funds should be increased to the £900 mark
instead of the £600 previously agreed.
This is to take into account increased bunkhouse charges in
general.
Present
number of fully paid members is 32
The
club accounts were proposed
John Harris
and Seconded by David Miller
SECRETARY’S
REPORT:
Marguerite
welcomed everyone to the meeting.
Thanks
were extended to everyone for once again contributing in making our year
a great success. In
particular our President John for his involvement and input throughout
the year.
Davy
once more taking care of our finances and thanks to his services too for
the monthly newspapers reports.
Our
equipment co-ordinator Billy as usual kept the clubs equipment in good
order.
Ronnie
has the unenviable task of bookings convener but handled all proceedings
with care and attention.
A
special thanks again to John and Winnie for their hospitality at New
Year, a great evening borne out by the majority of members and friends
staying well into the morning.
Ivan
and Jim once more did a grand job auditing our books and agreed to do
this again for next year.
Our
website is now up and running due to John's IT skills, everyone to
advise him of any input they would like to see included,
Finally
a vote of thanks to the Woodpecker staff for taking care of us at our
pre meets and especially the annual supply of ‘club’ sandwiches.
It
is the clubs 35th anniversary and the usual inaugural walk
will be organised and hopefully a few other events to mark this prestige
occasion. to be discussed further later.
