Guidelines
regarding the use of Club equipment.
The Club has had to take the step of providing the following guidelines
in regard to the borrowing of club equipment to aid clarification on
whose responsibility it is take care of the equipment.
Any reference to the Club hereafter shall mean the Upperward
Mountaineering club.
1. Any person borrowing
equipment are regarded as being held Responsible for their own safety
and no liability will be incurred upon the club or any member acting on
behalf of the club.
2. Any article of
equipment borrowed must be returned to the Equipment Coordinator
As near as possible in the same condition, as to when it was originally
borrowed.
3. Any item borrowed
should not be monopolized for any length of time but referral should be
made to the Equipment Co-ordinator on a weekly basis to establish if
there are any other members who wish to use the equipment.
4. if any article or
piece of equipment is returned damaged the person responsible for the
damaged equipment may be asked to either repair or to replace the
equipment. This would apply to any negligent use,
5. if any equipment
borrowed is either damaged or even lost, the committee will use their
judgement as to whether they feel that the borrower has been negligent,
But they will take any explanation from the borrower into due
consideration.
6. The Committee
shall have the final decision, as in their regard to deem if the
borrower has acted in an irresponsible manner and therefore will be
liable to repair or replace the damaged equipment.
7, Items, such as ice-
axes and crampons are not seen as being lent out on a continual basis,
for instance year after year, as club members are encouraged to purchase
their own normally after their first winter season.
8. Due to the fact that
ropes can be damaged and not show any visible evidence of this, They
will not be made available for borrowing
9. All of these
guidelines are designed to ensure that all borrowers exercise a
"duty of Care” to the equipment in their possession, and not to
he seen as being overly strict, or too regimental in any presentation.
