Guidelines regarding the use of Club equipment.

The Club has had to take the step of providing the following guidelines in regard to the borrowing of club equipment to aid clarification on whose responsibility it is take care of the equipment.

Any reference to the Club hereafter shall mean the Upperward Mountaineering club.

  1.   Any person borrowing equipment are regarded as being held Responsible for their own safety and no liability will be incurred upon the club or any member acting on behalf of the club.

  2.   Any article of equipment borrowed must be returned to the Equipment Coordinator As near as possible in the same condition, as to when it was originally borrowed.

  3.   Any item borrowed should not be monopolized for any length of time but referral should be made to the Equipment Co-ordinator on a weekly basis to establish if there are any other members who wish to use the equipment.

  4.   if any article or piece of equipment is returned damaged the person responsible for the damaged equipment may be asked to either repair or to replace the equipment. This would apply to any negligent use,

  5.   if any equipment borrowed is either damaged or even lost, the committee will use their judgement as to whether they feel that the borrower has been negligent, But they will take any explanation from the borrower into due consideration.

  6.   The Committee shall have the final decision, as in their regard to deem if the borrower has acted in an irresponsible manner and therefore will be liable to repair or replace the damaged equipment.

7,   Items, such as ice- axes and crampons are not seen as being lent out on a continual basis, for instance year after year, as club members are encouraged to purchase their own normally after their first winter season.

  8.   Due to the fact that ropes can be damaged and not show any visible evidence of this, They will not be made available for borrowing

  9.   All of these guidelines are designed to ensure that all borrowers exercise a "duty of Care” to the equipment in their possession, and not to he seen as being overly strict, or too regimental in any presentation.
